Happy New Year! Welcome each day of 2018 with thanks and celebration.

Elizabeth Cartwright graduated from Queens University of Charlotte Thursday, Dec. 14 with a degree in Nursing. She is now Elizabeth Cartwright, RN. Elizabeth received the Jones Nursing Award during the graduation ceremony.

Congratulations! What an amazing accomplishment! Elizabeth will be working in a hospital emergency department in Charlotte.

She is the daughter of Jeff Cartwright of Westfield. Elizabeth’s grandparents are Elise and Jimmy Cartwright.

The United Society of Friends Women from Westfield Friends Meeting visited Twelve Oaks nursing home last week with gifts, devotion, singing, food and drinks. The residents there were very appreciative.

Mycleta Burwell had grateful people at her table on Christmas Eve. Lots of good food and good fun.

Jack Nunn, Elsie Cartwright, Janie Sheppard and their families, the late Tom and Lois Nunn Family, celebrated Christmas at the home of Dr. Earl and Janie Sheppard on Christmas Day. A great Family time with the spirit of Christmas!

Members from Brown Mountain Church bought gifts for children at the Thomasville Baptist Children’s Home. The gifts from Santa were taken down there on Friday, Dec. 15 with some hot chocolate and popcorn. The children really enjoyed the hot chocolate and popcorn. They kept going back for seconds and thirds.

Brown Mountain Baptist Church will have its Christmas Play on Sunday, Dec. 31 during the 11 a.m. church service. The play had originally been scheduled for Dec. 10, but was postponed because of bad weather. Come enjoy!

Special prayers for, Dorothy Simmons, Lanny Martin, Alvin Sams, Hallie Hall, Hugh Covington, Radford Hiatt, Marie Jessup and Donnie McQuinn.

Celebrate the New Year at the Fourth Annual Polar Plunge at Hanging Rock State Park on New Years Day. The event is from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the lake. A costume parade is at at 3:15 p.m. and the plunge begins at 3:30 p.m. Registration is $25 in advance and $35 day of event. There will be prizes — a commemorative event scarf for the first 100 registered and unlimited food and beverages. Music by DJ- Tory Mabe. Spectators are welcom.

The King Fire Department is trying to help out the Donnie McQuinn family by selling Team McQuinn T-Shirts. The t-shirts are $20. The color of the shirt is green because that’s the color of Donnie’s cancer. They are good Hanes shirts with no label. You can get one at the King Fire Department or you can mail a check (payable to PFFK) to King Fire Department, 302 West King Street, King, NC 27021. Send with your check your name, size of t-shirt, your phone number and that you are pre ordering a team McQuinn t-shirt. The family needs the help. Donnie’s parents, Don and Gloria, live in Westfield. ‘

Wayne Jessup’s birthday is Dec. 26. LaWanda wants to wish him happy birthday and a very happy day! Lisa and Brad say happy birthday, too.

Ruth Robertson says happy birthday to her husband, Gary! Many more happy days to you!

Sylvia Fagg had a big birthday celebration along with the Marshall family Christmas at her home on Dece. 25. Happy birthday, Sylvia!

Brother Darrell Price had a birthday Sunday, Dec. 18. Members of Tru-Way Baptist Church want to wish Brother Darrell a very happy birthday!

Sympathy goes to Johnny, Joel, Jeff and the Stephens family.

Mrs. Brenda Marie Joyce Stephens, age 75, of Pilot Mountain, went home to be with Jesus, her Savior and Lord on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born November 18, 1942 in Stokes County.

Sympathy goes to Tammy Moore Poteat and the family.

James Poteat went home to be with the Lord. He is now pain free.

Mr. James Andrew Poteat Sr. age 61, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16. He was born January 8, 1956 to the late Claude Shelton and Ada Irene Gibson Poteat.

Sympathy goes to the Hiatt family.

Melvin “Radford” Hiatt, 86, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Hiatt was born in Carroll County, Virginia, on April 11, 1931, to the late Griffith and Elsie Frye Hiatt.

Sympathy goes to the McQuinn family.

Donald ‘Donnie’ Wayne McQuinn Jr., age 45, of Pinnacle, entered his heavenly home on Friday, Dec. 21, after a courageous battle with cancer. Donnie was born on June 4, 1972 to the Donald and Gloria McQuinn of Westfield.
