Labor Day is an annual holiday to celebrate the economic and social contributions of workers to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country. My aunt sent me a book with the rules of being a Southern Belle. One of the rules was to never wear white after Labor Day and put the straw hat in the closet.

Sunday, August 13, LaWanda, Sherri and Levi Jessup, along with Lisa Chilton, attended the presentation “The Million Dollar Quartet,” at the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theater in Wytheville, Virginia. The play and lunch menu was excellent.

This was a musical based on Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis. The entertainment was enjoyed by all. This was our last family outing with Levi before he leaves for Mars Hill University.

A very happy 90th birthday to our Hallie Hall! She celebrated with lots of cards, phone calls and visits on August 25, her birthday. Family and friends joined her at Brims Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall August 26 for a party given by her nephews and nieces.

Westfield Friends is having revival each Thursday in September at 7 p,m. The speaker for Sept. 7 is Ray Lambe and special music will be provided by David Goins.

There is a fund raiser yard sale set for Amanda Leftwich, who will be attending Youth With A Mission missionary training in October and later travelling to foreign countries to spread the word of God. The yard sale will be Saturday, Sept. 2 and Monday, Sept 4, at Pilot Mechanical, 722 E Main St, Pilot Mountain from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sausage biscuits will be available for breakfast hotdogs for lunch. Tons of items for sale along with Handmade Spiritual Inspiration bracelets made by Amanda and friends. If you have items you would like to donate to sale contact Amanda Leftich at 336-934-3159 or Jan Cox at 336-351-2985. Rain date Sept. 9.

There will be a fund raiser spaghetti supper for Amanda at Brown Mountain Baptist Church, 2269 NC 66 Hwy N, Westfield, Saturday, Sept 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. Meal will be donations. Get $1 tickets for a 50/50 drawing, a Rugar rifle and TCT 32” TV, contact Amanda Leftwich at 336-934-3159 and Jan Cox 336-351-2985 for more information or tickets. Please come and support Amanda and her family!

Crossroads Community Church Women’s Group is having a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and yard sale, until noon, on Sept. 16 at The Francisco Community Building. You can join in the fun and make a little money too. They will be renting tables to any vendor or yard seller that would like to help the women’s group in raising money for their ministry. Your cost will be $10 per table. If you are interested contact Kim Holland or Cindy Collins.

The Annual Francisco School Reunion Covered Dish Luncheon will be Saturday, Oct. 7 at noon. at the Francisco Volunteer Fire Station. The community building will be open at 11:30 a.m. Before or after lunch, you might like to attend the Francisco Farmfest, which is 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. that day.
