STATE ROAD — The investigation into the cause of a deadly Saturday night blaze which claimed the life of a State Road woman is still underway.
According to Surry County EMS Director John Shelton, Corinne Michelle Clarke, 38, was found dead in a home located at 716 Adams Ridge Road in State Road.
Shelton said the fire was reported at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, and emergency response personnel found Clarke’s body 30 minutes later.
Though Shelton noted the fire started in the living room at the residence, he said the exact cause of the fire has yet to be identified.
“The fire marshal is still working on the investigation,” explained the EMS director.
Shelton also stated Clarke’s body will be sent to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for an autopsy.
He noted the home was a total loss.
It is owned by Polly A. Dudley Rowell, from Winston-Salem, and valued at about $39,000, according to tax records.
