VFW Auxiliary 9436 is selling different kinds of nuts and chocolate items this year. Anyone that would like to purchase may call Margie Nichols, auxiliary president, at 336-351-3413. Some items are pecan pieces, chocolate bridge mix, chocolate covered raisins, almond cranberry granola, cashews, mixed nuts, and others.

The Collinstown Community Center’s Annual Gun raffle and chicken stew will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, beginning with a meal at 5 p.m. and the raffle beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are available now and are $20. Please contact Sherri Dalton if you would like to buy a ticket at 336-618-2929. Several residents and community members will have tickets as well. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you Dec. 3.

Patsy Clark’s family came to see her from South Carolina and spent several days. Her brother, who lives in Florence, had not been to see Patsy in five years. Patsy’s sister and sister’s daughter came with him. Patsy has enjoyed the laughter, conversation, and all the eating that they have done. Her brother actually encouraged Patsy to go vote and she is so proud she did. Pray for Patsy’s family safe trip home.

On the Sunday following Thanksgiving Day the service at Brown Mountain Baptist Church will be “The Hanging of the Greens.” Green represents renewal, new life, freshness, and rebirth. Plants such as pine, fir, holly, ivy, and mistletoe are called evergreens because they do not die. Advent is the season of preparation for the ever-coming Christ, God’s gift to us of renewal and transformation. Come see “The Hanging of the Greens” Sunday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m.

Brown Mountain Church will present its Christmas play on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.

There will be a Community Christmas Tree Lighting in Westfield on Saturday, Nov. 26. Join Westfield Baptist Church at 6 p.m. in the field beside the Office Annex to welcome the Christmas season! Refreshments will be served.

The Stokes County arts council will present Soup in a Bowl at Hanging Rock State Park Nov. 19 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Bath House at $20 per person. That includes the bowl, soup, dessert, beverage and entertainment.

Please remember to mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Rock House Ruritan Club Vendor Sale. They will have LuLaRoe Fashions, Scentsy, Indian Crafts, Custom Embroidery, Scarves and Gloves, Wreaths, Jewelry, Double Creek Treasures, baked goods, Rada knives, woodworking, Pink Zebra, Canned goods, cards and other items.

Please help out our local small business people and get your Christmas shopping done early.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, everyone is invited to Westfield Friends Meeting to the Thanksgiving community meal/celebration beginning at 5 p.m. with music provided by the group “Reel Shady.” Members are asked to bring desserts and beverages to add to a traditional Thanksgiving meal which will be provided. A love offering will be received for the musicians.

The Francisco Ruritans are sponsoring bingo on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. Hot dogs will be served at 6. Come out and support our community.

The Northern Stokes Food Pantry is running low on food and funds. Just want to get the word out and see if Northern Stokes Food Pantry can get help. The people of our communities are always so giving and good to help. I know that if everyone knew what was going on they would help.

Hallie Hall is home from having surgery, doing lots better and cancer free. Hallie wants to thank everyone for the prayers, cards, visits, flowers and fruit baskets. She is staying by herself starting this week. Hallie is selling pecans for the Double Creek Fire Department. $9 a bag. Call her and get you a bag of pecans. Call 336-351-3490.

Jeanette Faye Smith Graves died on Nov. 7. She was born on Sept. 15, 1931 to Thomas Martin Smith and Daisy Belle Dearmin Smith in the family home on Tom Smith Road in the Brown Mountain community of Stokes County.

Sympathy goes to all of the Jessup family. Raymond Jessup passed away Saturday, Nov. 12. He will be at Moody’s in Mount Airy on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and will be buried at Mountain View in Claudville, Va at 2 p.m on Wednesday.

Sympathy goes to the Sammy Jeffrord’s family.
