Local youths and adults are invited to the Homeplace Recreational Park on Sunday evening from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. to enjoy an evening of free food, fellowship and swimming.
The occasion will be the eighth annual Summer Sensation back-to-school celebration, hosted by Indian Grove Baptist Church with the support of other community churches and individuals.
The event is held each year in order to give youngsters and their families one more opportunity to enjoy the summer before the start of the new school year. No admission will be charged, and all food and activities are provided free of charge.
In addition to swimming, scheduled activities will include a hot-dog cookout, with plenty of chips, desserts and drinks for all. Free school supplies will be distributed and a brief gospel message will be presented by Indian Grove Pastor Frank Harmon.
“We’d love to invite everyone to join us,” Harmon said, “and the more we have, the better we like it. This is an opportunity to share Christ with our community and to show them we care. It’s a chance for us to give back and share His gospel message with others.”
Throughout the event’s history, Harmon and his wife, Amanda, have served as primary organizers for the evening.
“Over the years we’ve gotten to meet a lot of people and everyone has had a good time,” he said. “It’s an awesome atmosphere. This is a chance for people to come together, an opportunity for some people who don’t get to do this a lot or for some who don’t get out to see each other very often. Every year has been an exciting blessing and we’re hoping people will come out this year and have a good time.”
