Pilot water system shut down by main line break

Pilot Mountain businesses and residents may find water in short supply today.

According to town officials, a main water line from the Pilot Mountain water plant has ruptured, forcing utility workers to shut off water to the town.

“Customers will begin to have water shortages as the tanks empty,” the town stated in a short statement posted on its website. “Crews are working as quickly as possible to restore service, but we do not know at this time how long service will be down.”

The water line break was severe enough to cause damage to some driveways and yards with the water gushing from the line, and crews have had to close parts of Old 52 in town.

No other details were immediately available.
