Hallie Hall said a box of pears appeared on her porch after a friend put on Facebook she wanted some pears. Hallie really appreciates the fruit and wants to thank the person that brought them. She made 10 pints of pear honey. Thank you for the pears.

Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church is in need of extra funds to maintain the cemetery. If you have a family member buried there, please consider a donation to the church. Donations may be made to Big Creek Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Wilna Durham, 1219 Inman Road, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The turkey shoot at Rock House Ruritan Club will continue each Saturday with dinner at 5 p.m. and the shoot starting at 6 p.m. It will be five miles out of Pilot Mountain on 268 East beside Double Creek Fire Department. The location is five miles out of Pilot Mountain on 268 East we are beside Double Creek Fire Dept. The Ruritans do this to help people out in the community. Please tell your friends and family.

There will be a shoot every Saturday night weather permitting, except for Dec. 24.

There will be a fall festival at Brown Mountain Baptist Church Saturday, Oct. 29. The festival starts at 8 a.m. and is over at 2 p.m. The chicken stew will be served at noon and the music will start then too. There will be craft booths and games for the kids.

There is a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Mike Bates’ medical fund. This will be held at Westfield Ruritan Community Building on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 4 p.m. to 8 pm. The meal includes spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and drink. Donations only! Also, enter a raffle for a chance to win $100 in gas.

The Hacker House is open every Friday and Saturday until Halloween, as well as Sunday Oct 30.

The collard green sandwich was scrumptious! Jack and I and Paul and Sheri Bradley stood in line over an hour to buy collard green sandwiches and pintos Saturday afternoon at the Autumn Leaves Festival in Moumt Airy. We found some more Westfield folks waiting in line, too. You can’t beat a hot collard green sandwich!

Happy anniversary to Gaylon and Novella Adams, Matt and Ruth Fuller, and Dale and Kim Merritt.

Boomer Nunn turned 10 years old on Oct. 14. He spent the day with his dad, Todd, and other friends at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California. Grandpa Jack and Granny Jane want to wish Boomer a very Happy Birthday.

Mary Romine and Donna, Penny and their families celebrated Don Romine’s 83rd birthday at Little Richards BBQ in Mount Airy. Happy Birthday, Don!

Tina Renee Flippin Lawson, 52, of Pilot Mountain passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. She was born on Oct. 11, 1964 in Surry County to Carolyn Ann Lambert Flippin and the late Wade Delmar Flippin
