Kyser George and his band, ShadowGrass, participated in the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass during this past weekend. In addition to performing on several stages throughout the festival, ShadowGrass appeared live with Al Roker on NBC’s Today’s Take on Friday, Sept. Kyser is the son of David and Cindy George of Westfield.

There will be a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Mike Bates medical fund held at Westfield Ruritan Community Building on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. The meal includes: Spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and drink. Donations only! Also, enter a raffle for a chance to win $100 in gas.

Hacker House opened Friday Sept. 30 and continues every Friday and Saturday until Halloween and will be open on Sunday Oct. 30.

Homecoming will be observed at Brown Mountain Baptist Church on Sunday, Oct. 16.

The Fall Festival will be held at Brown Mountain Baptist Church Saturday, Oct. 29. The festival starts at 8 a.m. and is over at 2 p.m. The chicken stew will be served at 12 noon and the music will start then too. There will be craft booths and games for the kids.

Brims Grove Baptist Church’s homecoming is Oct. 9. The speaker will be Wayne Moore. A meal will follow the service.

Sunday, Oct. 16 is homecoming at Westfield Baptist Church, with a covered-dish meal after the 11 a.m. service. Drinks will be provided by the church.

Sunday, Oct. 9 will be homecoming at Westfield Friends Meeting: Amazing Grace-special music by the choir and message by Linda Anderson.

The annual bazaar at Westfield Friends Meeting will be Oct. 15.

The turkey shoot at Rock House Ruritan Club will continue each Saturday with dinner at 5 p.m. and the shoot starting at 6 p.m. It will be five miles out of Pilot Mountain on 268 East beside Double Creek Fire Department.

The Family Dollar opened in Westfield.

Pauline Elizabeth Jessup Fulk, age 85, of Pilot Mountain, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, Sept. 26.
