North Stokes High School earned the opportunity to host the first playoff game of this year’s football season. Earlier that afternoon their coaching staff and the administration of the school took the opportunity to invite Stoney Ridge Baptist Church to feed the team a special meal to help prepare them for that evening’s gridiron competition. For the past few years local churches have enjoyed the privilege of sharing a meal with the football team and cheerleaders. This particular week, the mobile grill, desserts and smiling service came from Stoney Ridge Baptist Church of Westfield. Ten members volunteered to bring and serve the meal and desserts that other members took the time to prepare for the group. Pastor Darryl Vestal, using Power Point slides from the recent hit movie, “Woodlawn,” brought a timely motivational talk to encourage the group to stand up for their personal beliefs and compete with all their strength on the field. The students and staff ate heartily and enjoyed a relaxed time of fellowship until it was time to prepare for the evening’s event. “What happens inside the church building is vital, but we have to balance that with getting outside the walls of the building and affecting our community and world with the message of Jesus Christ. Now more than ever, Christians have to know what they believe and live it out in front of our world. Young people especially have to see a consistent effort from churches, to paraphrase Jesus, not just be hearers of the Word, but doers,” said Pastor Darryl. Those gathered at North Stokes certainly know that, win or lose, the Stoney Ridge church family cares for them.

Sammy and Janice Lawson are enjoying their Thanksgiving early with daughter, Tracey Coker, and grand daughters, Sara and Hanna, from Richmond Hill, Georgia.
