Shoals High School celebrates 60th reunion


Dennis Mayes, Marie Joyce, Roy Allen, Wayne Marion, and Aubrey Bullington came together for the 60th reunion of the Shoals High School class of 1955.


SHOALS — The Shoals High School class of 1955 held its 60th reunion on Sept. 12 at Mountain View Restaurant.

There were 14 members in the class. The five members in attendance were Dennis Mayes, Marie Joyce, Roy Allen, Wayne Marion, and Aubrey Bullington. Five members have passed away. Two members are currently in rest homes.

Most of the members settled and worked in and around Surry County. Several members of the class served in the military.

Pictures of high school days were enjoyed by everyone. Many memories of high school days were recalled.

The senior play, Two Days to Marry, and the Washington D.C. trip were highlights of the senior year. The class of 1955 was the first class to make the trip to the nation’s capitol.

The class enjoyed a 60th reunion cake, which was decorated in class colors. A delicious meal was enjoyed by all the class.

The class has met many times over the past years. They plan to meet again in 2016.
