VFW announces essay contest winner


Harlan Hawks, Post Commander; Gabrielle Resnick, Buddy Poppy Queen; and, Margie Nichols, Auxiliary President.


PILOT MOUNTAIN — Gabrielle Resnick, Buddy Poppy Queen for Pilot Mtn. Post 9436 and VFW Auxiliary, presented her essay titled “Why It’s Important to Promote the Buddy Poppy” during the September business meeting. She was presented a monetary gift and a Certificate of Appreciation from VFW Auxiliary President Margie Nichols and she also received a monetary gift from VFW Commander Harlan Hawks. Gabrielle’s essay has been forwarded on to the District level for further judging. As part of the requirements for the contest, she had to help distribute Buddy Poppies during the VFW Auxiliary’s Buddy Poppy Promotion on Saturday, August 8th. 2015.

A sixth grader at Piney Grove Middle School, Gabrielle is active in dance, horseback riding, horse vaulting, gymnastics, acrobatics, and she is a girl scout. She also likes music and the arts. Gabrielle is eleven years old and is the daughter of Christina Resnick of Pinnacle. She is the granddaughter of Joanne Resnick who lives in Florida.
