Local runners and walkers are invited to start lacing their sneakers as they make plans to take part in the Armfield Civic and Recreation Center’s annual Pilot Mountain 5K Fall Trail Run.
Registration is underway for the event, scheduled to take place Oct. 7. Day-of-run registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the run to get underway at 9.
The run will begin in an adjacent parking lot before proceeding into Nelson Acres. According to Armfield Center Fitness Director Magan Vogler, the trail should provide a scenic and challenging run or walk for all, regardless of the pace they wish to keep.
“We had marked the trail last year,” Vogler noted, “and they’ve already gone out and cleaned it up for this year.”
“This is for everyone, for all ages and abilities,” she continued. “We have several serious trail runners who take part every year. And we’ve already had several ask if they could come out and walk the trail. We have a gentleman in his upper 80’s who comes out for this every year.”
Post-race medals will be awarded to top overall male and female finishers as well as to the top finisher in each age division.
Proceeds from the day, Vogler said, will be put back into the center and its programs.
“We’re a non-profit,” she explained, “and these funds will go into our fitness programs, our youth activities and will be used as needed to benefit the center.”
Advance registration for the run is $25 and is available anytime before the day of the event. Registration forms or more information can be found by stopping by the center or by visiting www.active.com or www.runsignup.com.
Day of the event registration will be $30 per participant.
Registration for the run is off to a fast start and expectations are high.
“We already have more than we’ve had in recent years,” Vogler noted, “and we’re hoping for a big turn-out. This is an event we really enjoy putting on here at the civic center and we hope a lot of local people will come out, take part and enjoy the day.”
