The East Surry High School gymnasium replaced the familiar sights of games and fans with a diverse assortment of mattresses Saturday as the girls’ and boys’ basketball programs hosted a mattress sale fundraiser.
Working with Custom Fundraising Solutions, the programs filled the gym with mattresses for a steady flow of interested shoppers to inspect and try out. Outside and at prime locations around town, team members held signs throughout the day and enthusiastically encouraged passers-by to visit the school and shop for a mattress.
“This has gone great,” East Surry Girls Basketball Coach Caleb Gilley said as late afternoon supporters continued to drop by. “We are really pleased with this company, with the turnout and with our sales.”
Gilley attributed much of the project’s success to the enthusiastic support of team members.
“Our only role in this day was to advertise,” he noted. “The kids have done a great job with letting people know the day and our turnout represents that. They’ve done great.”
“And,” he continued, “I believe today’s success speaks to Pilot Mountain and its support of our school and our athletic teams.”
According to Gilley, proceeds from the day will go toward meeting program needs including items such as uniforms and equipment.
