Surry Community College students enrolled in Dr. Dawn Worley’s BUS 110: Introduction to Business class recently participated in a social responsibility project by donating baby items to Lifeline Pregnancy Help Center in Elkin.
While studying social responsibility, Worley asked each student to research social responsibility endeavors of a specific corporation. The students then shared their research with the class and discussed their own ideas of how to give back to society. After discussing many ways in which they could help those less fortunate, Worley encouraged students to select one way in which to give back to the community as a class. They chose to collect items for a donation to Lifeline Pregnancy Help Center and invited students in Frank Cugliari’s Introduction to Business class to join them in their collection. In total, the students donated 148 items including pacifiers, bibs, clothing, baby wipes, diapers, and bottles.
Sharon Kelly, executive director of Lifeline Pregnancy Help Center, visited Dr. Worley’s class to collect the items on April 25. She also shared her business expertise with the class by discussing Lifeline’s business structure and her own responsibilities as an executive director.
All the donated items will be placed in Lifeline’s Baby Boutique where new and expectant parents can shop using points earned through the center’s “Earn While You Learn” program.
