A trio of students from the East Surry High School JROTC program has been honored for their exemplary performance after a competition for the Cadet of the Semester honors held at the school recently.
A panel of judges comprised of the East Surry JROTC staff inspected each cadet and asked a series of questions.
After the session of questions, the cadets were asked to show their knowledge of drill. Cadets who were Learning Educational Training (LET) level two and above were asked to demonstrate their drill technique while armed with mock rifles. Those in LET one demonstrated without arms.
Cadets were graded on how well they answered questions; their proficiency in performing drill; how well they kept military bearing and how well uniforms met standards.
Only cadets who maintained an “A” average in the JROTC program throughout the semester were allowed to compete.
Following the competition, winners of the Cadet of the Semester were announced. They were LET Four Will Nichols, LET Three Breanna Phillips and LET Two Cade Williams.
Each winning cadet was promoted in one rank and received an arc for their uniform. All the participants of the Cadet of the Quarter received a ribbon to put on their uniform.
