Happy Mother’s Day!

Saturday evening, April 29, Jerry and Lisa Chilton, along with Levi Jessup attended the live production of “Thunder in the Hills” at the Carroll County Historical Courthouse in Hillsville, Virginia. The play is based on the true story of the 1912 courthouse shooting involving the Floyd Allen trial. Floyd Allen &=and his son, Claude, were executed in Richmond as a result of this incident. The threesome enjoyed a pre-theater dinner at the Hale-Wilkinson-Carter Historical home in Hillsville. This home was originally built in 1845 and is being restored. Jerry, Lisa and Levi had a wonderful time!

Congratulations to Brooke Hall. She graduated from Stokes County Early College High Saturday morning, May 6. The commencement exercises were held at Central Park in King. Brooke’s parents are Sheri and Paul Bradley and grandparent Carol Warden.

Alex Childress graduated from Western Carolina University on May 6. Congratulations, Alex! Wendy and a Jeff Cartright are his proud parents and Maxine Smith is a proud grandparent.

Natalie Railey will graduate from Appalachian State University on May 12. Natalie’s parents are Ken and Sandy Railey and grandparents are Sue and Radford Hiatt.

The Westfield Ruritan Club is sponsiring a country ham, sausage and egg breakfast, on Saturday, May 13 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Westfield Community building – 6631Westfiled Road (across from the Westfield Post Office ). The meal will include ham, sausage patties, gravy, eggs, apples, fresh fruit, homemade biscuits and drinks. Donations only! Benefit for Marie and Rayford Jessup to help with recent extraordinary medical expenses

Whitney Humphries turned 30 years old May 1. Janice and Sammy Lawson say Happy Birthday, Whitney.

Carol Bottoms had a birthday April 30. Have many more happy birthdays, Carol.

Treanne Perry will celebrate her birthday May 11 at Jane and Jack Nunn’s.

Marie Jessup is recuperating from a foot injury at the Universal Healthcare facility, 115 White Road in King. She loves company.

Mary and Don Romine invited Jack and I and several others to the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre last Sunday for a delicious meal and to hear “Then Sings my Soul.” The singing was awesome! Some of the songs were: In the Garden, I’ll Fly Away, He’s Alive, People Get Ready, Sacred Memories, It Is Well With My Soul.

Sympathy goes to Gaye Lawrence and the Tilley family.

Joseph Craig “Joey” Tilley, age 52, passed away on May 2 at his residence.

He was born on May 2, 1965 in Surry County to Gaye Cain and Glenn Tilley.

Sympathy goes to his parents, Roxane and Cary Cann, grandparents, Bryan and Rene Marion, Cathey Cann and Teresa Smith and their families.

Vincent Wayne Puckett, age 14, beloved son, brother, grandson and nephew passed away on Monday, May 1. He was born January 1, 2003 in Forsyth County to Roxane Sara Marion and Ronald Wayne Puckett Jr. He was a student at Mount Airy High School.

Sympathy goes to Estelle Gordon, Lloyd, Alvin and Glenn Sams and Michael Lyons.

Mrs. Jenny Sams Lyons, 69, left this life on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at home surrounded by her family after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.
