Mary and Don Romine has invited Jack and me for many years to go to the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theater in Wytheville, Virginia. It’s part of Christmas!

This year we went on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 11 to see the Christmas Carol play. These are the people in the Romine group: Sybil Inman, Linda Needham, Carol Jessup, Grace Edwards, Will Edwards, Claude and Sue Williamson, Tammy Burlington, Ruth Robertson, Nancy Speaks, Kathy George, Lynn Templeton, Jack and Jane Nunn and Don and Mary Romine. We had such a grand time with nice people and delicious food.

There is a turkey shoot at Rock House Ruritan Club each Saturday evening. The weekly event starts feeding you at 5, with the shoot starting at 6. On Dec. 17 the Riffle and Bed Quilt will be given away at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 or five tickets for $20.

The shoot are located five miles out of Pilot Mountain on 268 East beside Double Creek Fire Dept. The group does this as a fundraiser to help people in the community. Please tell your friends and family. They will have a shoot every Saturday night weather permitting, except for Dec. 24.

VFW Auxiliary to post 9436 is selling different kinds of nuts and chocolate items. Anyone that would like to purchase may call Margie Nichols, auxiliary president, at 336-351-3413. This is what is left — a few bags of dark chocolate bridge mix and light/English walnuts.

Friendly Chapel’s Christmas Program will be presented Dec. 18 at 6 p.m.

Brims Grove Baptist Church Children’s Christmas Program will be Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m.

The Hanging Rock State Park Polar Plunge is scheduled for New Years Day. The Jan. 1 event will last from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the lake. There will be a costume parade at 4 p.m. and tje plunge begins at 4:15 p.m. Registration is $25 in advance and $35 the day of event. There will be prizes!

Westfield Baptist Church will have its Christmas Cantata Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. with a Christmas Day Worship at Westfield Baptist Church at 10 a.m. All other services are canceled.

Sunday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. Westfield Friends Meeting will present its Christmas play. Please bring snacks to share following the play.

Janice Lawson is very thankful for all her dear friends. Janice appreciated all the help her friends gave her while she was in a soft cast and a boot that was on her right foot. Driving was a problem so Judy Lane and Martha Moorefield took Janice to her recent foot doctor appointment. She is out of the cast and boot! Friends are awesome!

Elsie Cartwright took Janice and me to a sale in Mount Airy this past week. We are all shopping till we drop this time of year.

Happy Anniversary to Tana and Vance Mills and Christine and Darrell Reynolds.

Happy Birthday to Jim Nichols. His Happy Day is Dec. 16. Margie, his wife, wants to wish him a very Happy Birthday and many more wonderful years.

Mrs. Carolyn Hawks Hutchens, 69, of Cana, VA, passed away Thursday night, Dec. 8, 2016, at her home.

Sympathy goes to Leonard’s brothers Mike and Riley and the Goins family.

Bobby Leonard Goins, 69, passed away on December 8, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC with his children and sister by his side. Leonard grew up in Asbury, NC. He attended Francisco High School and graduated from East Surry High School

Please have special prayers for the family of Pauline Inman Matthews. Pauline passed away this week.
