Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on Nov. 11, that honors military veterans, that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces.

A Veterans Appreciation Luncheon was held at Brown Mountain Baptist Church this past Sunday. Bud Hicks, the oldest veteran there, was given a crocheted American Flag Afghan. The flag Afghan was crocheted by Tina Wright. The flag Afghan was made with loving hands and was breath taking. The other veterans got American flag bird feeders and blue buckets of snacks. The meal of soup, sandwich, salad, dessert and drink was delicious.

There will be a Community Christmas Tree Lighting in Westfield on Saturday, Nov. 26. Join Westfield Baptist Church at 6 p.m. in the field beside the Office Annex as we welcome the Christmas Season! Refreshments will be served.

The Stokes County Arts Council will present Soup in a Bowl at Hanging Rock State Park Nov. 19 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Bath House, at a cost of $20 per person. That includes the bowl, soup, dessert, beverage and entertainment.

Please remember to mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Rock House Ruritan Club Vendor Sale. They will have LuLaRoe Fashions, Scentsy, Indian Crafts, Custom Embroidery, Scarves and Gloves, Wreaths, Jewelry, Double Creek Treasures, baked goods, Rada knives, woodworking, Pink Zebra, Canned goods, cards etc.

Please help out our local small business people and get your Christmas shopping done early.

They will have breakfast and lunch sandwiches, desserts and drinks available for purchase.

Cowbell service Nov. 13 at Albion Baptist Fellowship building. Meal at 5:30 followed by speakers at 7. Terry Collins, Joe Smith, Pete King, and Kevin Kilby will be speaking.

On Dec 3 there will be a pinto bean supper fundraiser from 4:30 p.m. 7 p.m. at Albion Baptist Fellowship Building.

On Saturday, Nov. 19 everyone is invited to Westfield Friends Meeting to the Thanksgiving community meal/celebration beginning at 5 p.m. with music provided by the group “Reel Shady.” Members are asked to bring desserts and beverages to add to a traditional Thanksgiving meal which will be provided. A love offering will be received for the musicians.

The Francisco Ruritans are sponsoring bingo on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m., with dot dogs served at 6.

Sunday, Nov. 6, the North Stokes Class of 1996 is having its 20th year reunion at Moratock Park. Expecting a large turnout. They are all excited! Somebody’s getting old, but not them!!

Jerry Bingman is opening a new furniture store beside dollar general in Pilot Mountain Thursday, Nov. 10. It is called My Furniture Place and the phone number is 336-444-8088. The website is www.myfurnitureplace.com.

Marie Jessup came home from Northern Surry hospital this past Sunday. She is doing some better but still needs your prayers.

Linda Black is doing much better after her heart stint surgery a couple weeks ago. She had a 95 percent blockage in a valve and had a second stint put in. Prayers for you Linda.

Hallie Hall is home from having surgery, doing lots better and cancer free. Hallie wants to thank everyone for the prayers, cards and visits.

Tommy Tilley is home from the hospital.

Happy Anniversary to Sammy and Janice Lawson!

LaWanda and Wayne Jessup want to wish their great-grandson, Waylon Austin Webster, a very Happy Birthday! Waylon Austin was 2 years old on Nov. 4.

Nathan Rose turns 17 on Nov. 10. Tina, his mother, wants to wish him an awesome Happy Birthday!
