July 4, 1776 ... Declaration of Independence ... “I pledge allegiance ... God Bless America.” What does that mean to us today?

We should be thankful to our forefathers that we live in a free country.

Copeland Ruritans and Siloam ECA sponsored our annual “Fourth Fun Day” on the square in Siloam on Saturday. The Ruritans sold their delicious hot dogs and drinks.

The Extension Club members had quilt tickets and desserts. We had made a beautiful quilt and some delicious desserts!

The kids games were the biggest hit. Lots of activity was going on in their section. They especially enjoyed the watermelon spittin’ contest. And then they had a “hollerin” contest. Now there was one older kid in that contest, but she didn’t win. That was fun.

The winner of the quilt was a young man in our community ... a very young man. Alex Hege is 9-years-old and slept under that quilt on Saturday night!

It was a fun day. And the weather cooperated!

Pat Crissman was able to be back in church on Sunday. She had knee surgery and is doing great.

We were so sorry to hear about the church at Shoals burning. That is a sad thing to happen in any community.

Our great-grandone is now beginning to smile. And need I tell you how cute we think she is???

The gardens and lawns are in such need of rain. Bob is watering the garden, but we just need a good soaking rain. Gathering the produce is not too big of a job. There is so little to gather.

Well, the doctor removed the cast from my arm and I felt so free, until he said, “You’ll now wear the brace for three weeks!”

Doctors can be so nice. Well, the brace feels better than the cast.
