The church will host its first “Sweet Repeats” consignment clothing sale on Aug. 14-15, offering gently used children’s clothing, toys and baby equipment. Hours for the sale will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday morning in the church’s Family Life Center.
Members of the community will have the opportunity to offer their own items at the sale on a consignment basis, with the ministry receiving 30 percent of all proceeds. In order to participate, potential consigners are asked to register at the church office from now through Aug. 5. A $5 fee will be charged and an information packet will be provided upon registration.
Children’s clothing will be accepted in sizes 0-16, along with toys and baby equipment. Infant car seats will not be accepted for consignment. After registration, participants will be asked to drop items off at the church from Aug. 9-11. Clothing should be on hangers, priced and with sizes listed. Organizers will then place items on racks for display. Consigners do not need to be present for the sale.
With a tight economy continuing to affect local budgets, the sale would seem to come at an ideal time for families wanting to supplement income. And with the beginning of school just around the corner, the opportunity to stretch wardrobes with “gently used” clothing should also appeal.
“It should be a good time for this,” said primary organizer Sherry Jessup. “And we believe we’ll have a good event. A lot of areas and churches around us are already doing this but, as far as I know, it hasn’t been done here.”
According to Jessup, the event is the first of what is planned as an ongoing series of periodic sales.
Plans are for future sales to be held semi-annually with proceeds to benefit the church’s children’s ministry and its projects.
