Dear Editor,

Providence?

There is much to be said about the way in which our lives as individuals or as community are effected by events and or circumstance. Many times it is only through the window of history that we are able to see the hand of providence.

Pilot Mountain was soon to become a community without the services of a family physician. The Pilot Mountain Civic Club set about the task of trying to locate and secure a doctor to fill this much needed void. What seemed to be an impossible task turned into a fabulous find. Not only did the club find a fantastic physician, but a strong community leader as well. Dr. C. Wayne Lankford, his lovely wife Debbie, and his daughter Kristen were coming to Pilot Mountain.

Twenty-four years have passed and many changes have taken place. The Lankfords, upon their exit of the community, will have left a footprint that will long be remembered and cherished. Thank you for sharing not only your medical expertise with us but also for your giving of yourself in so many ways.

Sincerely,

Jack L. Palmer
