Vacation time must be nearing the end. Our church attendance was way up on Sunday. The beach and mountains are surely seeing a decline in tourists!

A large group of young people and several adults from the Baptist church left on Monday morning for Fort Caswell. They will be attending Youth Week and doing lots of different activities.

Some of the adults will be doing cooking, with good nutrition and healthy meals in mind! (Now, that was just my opinion.)

Do teens really like healthy meals? They will participate in many activities.

Mrs. Ronald (Ruby) Bowman was honored with a birthday luncheon at Prime Sirloin in Mount Airy on Sunday at lunch. Many friends came to help her celebrate her 75th birthday.

The East Surry Little League All stars played in Forest City last week for the North Carolina championship. They defeated Cape Fear 12-5 to win the state title. They will play in Luray, Va., this weekend for the Regional championship. Ally McCraw of our community is one of the team members. The coaches are Brent Jones, Scott Bruner and Daniel McCraw. Congratulations to the team.

‘Tis a sad time in America. The Penn State problems and the Colorado shootings. Something is wrong in our nation when things like these occur.
