The Rock House Ruritan Club will be hosting a benefit dinner on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. Plates will be sold for $5 and an auction also will be held. All proceeds will help Nancy Reynolds Elementary School raise money for supplies and resources for their students. They want to see you there.

Revival at Westfield Friends Meeting starting Sept. 10 with Archie Creed; Sept. 17 with Steve Wood; Sept. 24 with Jeff Moran; and Oct. 1 with Linda Anderson. The services will start at 7 p.m.

The Stokes Stomp Festival on the Dan scheduled for Sept. 12 and 13 is adding a few new wrinkles on its 41st birthday, with activities aimed for the young and young at heart. The longest running arts council sponsored event in North Carolina, the Stokes Stomp is held annually along the banks of the beautiful Dan River at Moratock Park, 1077 Sheppard Mill Road in Danbury.

Just for information, it’s 19 Fridays left until Christmas. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Happy anniversary to Tim and Kimberly Hall. Congratulations to both of you for 27 years of marriage.

Mrs. Barbara Lawson Wright, 83, passed away Aug. 14. She was born in Stokes County on Jan. 14, 1932, to the late Georgia Harger Lawson and James Ed Lawson. Mrs. Wright was a faithful member of Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church where she managed and maintained the cemetery and served as treasurer for the church and cemetery.
