The Francisco Farmfest is coming up, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1. The festival will celebrate the people, the arts and traditions, and the agricultural heritage of the area.
Kyser George’s band, ShadowGrass won first place youth band at the 81st Annual Old Fiddlers Convention in Galax, Virginia. His band also took top spots in the youth guitar, youth banjo, and youth bluegrass fiddle. Kyser’s parents are David and Cindy George.
ShadowGrass also took fifth place adult bluegrass band at the Galax convention.
New grandparents and great grandparents in Westfield this week. Brandon and Ashley Jessup had their baby. Esmay Rose Jessup was born, weighing 7 pounds and 1.6 ounces and measuring 19 1/2 inches long. Essay Rose came to the family August 11 at 3:42 p.m. Proud grandparents and great-grandparents are the following; grandparents are Greg and Crystal Jessup of Pilot Mountain, Anita and Danny Farris of Ararat, Virginia; great-grandparents are Rayford and Marie Jessup of Westfield and Joe and Mary Ann Hull of Mount Airy.

There is a North Stokes High School 60s Reunion planned for Sept. 23 and 24. Everyone who attended North Stokes during that decade is invited. There is a home football on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m., but the big reunion is on Saturday Sept. 24, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., with the meal at 3 p.m.
A benefit for Jason Blevins, a 98.1 Country Radio personality, is set for August 27 at Fairview Ruritan Building, 1691 Fairview Road, Galax. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. For bingo players and bingo starts at 3 p.m. You can get in line at 4:30 p.m. For a meal of pintos, potatoes, slaw, cornbread, dessert and/or hot dogs, chips, dessert with drinks. Tickets are being sold on a crochet Christmas skirt made by Jason’s mother, Brenda Love Blevins. Jason was diagnosed with pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer and has been traveling to Vanderbilt Medical Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee for his chemotherapy treatments.
