A benefit for Jason Blevins, 98.1 Country Radio Personality, will be held on August 27 at Fairview Ruritan Building, 1691 Fairview Road, Galax, Virginia. The doors open at 2:30 p.m for bingo players and bingo starts at 3 p,m. You can get in line at 4:30 for a meal of pintos, potatoes, slaw, cornbread, dessert and/or hot dogs, chips, dessert with drinks.

Afterward there will be an auction. Tickets are being sold on a crochet Christmas skirt made by Jason’s mother, Brenda Love Blevins. Jason was diagnosed with pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer and has been traveling to Vanderbilt Medical Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, for his chemotherapy treatments. Saturday, July 30, at 5 p.m. is Fun Day on the Westfield Friends Meeting premises. Games, food and entertainment. Youth of all ages are welcome.

There will be a song service at Brown Mountain Baptist Church July 31 at 6:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair. The service is outside.

Vacation Bible School is set for Saturday, August 20 at Brown Mountain Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday, July 23, 7 a.m. To 11a.m. Is a fund raising breakfast for the Westfield Ruritan Club. Breakfast with a bake sale and silent auction for Beverly Stevens.

J. Reid Durham, age 88, of Westfield went to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 10 at 3:18 p.m. in his home. He was born on Feb. 6, 1928 in Stokes County to the late Ross Lee Durham and Carrie Dunman Durham. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1946 to 1949 and was retired from R.J. Reynolds.

Nonnie Mae Cain Cooke, age 88, of Mount Airy passed away on July 9. She was born on Nov. 4, 1927 in Surry County

Larry Wood, age 69, of Danbury passed away on Sunday, July 10 at Forsyth Medical Center.
