Local students selected for Honor Band

The Surry County School System Band Programs are pleased to announce that each of the three traditional Surry County Schools high schools will be represented at the Northwest NC All-District Honor Band.

This is a highly competitive event where, this year, over 1,200 students representing nineteen (19) counties auditioned for only 140 positions. Students are required to practice and perfect a solo specific to their instrument, major scales, chromatic scale as well as sight-read a piece of music after looking at it for only thirty seconds.

Isaiah Collins will represent East Surry on clarinet, Caleb Cooke will represent North Surry on trombone, and Savannah Dollyhigh will represent Surry Central on trumpet. These students will rehearse with the best student-musicians in the Northwest NC Bandmasters Association on the Appalachian State University campus from Friday, February 19th through Sunday, February 21st. Special guest conductors will be in attendance to lead the students in the culminating concert Sunday afternoon.

Superintendent Dr. Travis L. Reeves commented, “We are very proud of our high school band programs. I believe we have some of the best band directors and band students in the state. I am particularly excited for Isaiah, Savannah, and Caleb as they have the opportunity to display their talents!”
