DOBSON — Surry Community College will be offering a course in technology awareness designed to provide computer skills for job seekers. The class tuition may be waived if the students meet certain requirements.
In the class, students will learn new technology skills in order to increase their level of comfort in using computers. The class will also focus on how job seekers can use technology to search for jobs. Students will understand how to access online resources to look for job openings and to learn about different career paths.
The instructor also will assist students in compiling and developing employment documents such as resumes, cover letters, applications and electronic employment portfolios. After the class, students will also know how to access governmental and educational resources online. Students will also develop an understanding of how social networking impacts employment and how technology is important in the workplace.
In Mount Airy, classes will be held Aug. 24 through Oct. 14, Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Center for Public Safety, 1220 State St. In Elkin, classes will be held Aug. 24 through Oct. 14, Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon at The Elkin Center, 1461 N. Bridge St. In Pilot Mountain, classes will be held Aug. 24 through Oct. 14, Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Pilot Center, 612 E. Main St. In Yadkinville, classes will be held Aug. 25 through Oct. 15, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Yadkin Center, 4649 U.S. 601.
