Kindergarten and Pre-K students from several schools and daycares brought busloads of children to downtown Pilot Mountain on Halloween to enjoy some trick-or treating from generous business owners. There were around 300 children this year arriving around 10 a.m., according to town commissioner Kim Quinn.

Cook’e Jessup, who has been at Mount Pilot Antiques for 18 years, can’t remember exactly how long the children have been coming downtown to trick-or-treat. “But it’s been a long time,” she said.

“I love it,” Jessup added. “My husband and I both love it.”

Jessup explained that buses bring in the children who are greeted by business owners outside their shops mostly, because there are so many children. She said that some local people bring children, too. Not just the schools. But there’s not too much of that.

“The children love getting candy, of course,” said Jessup, “but I think they mostly like being able to show off their costumes.

Jessup adds, “Every year, I am shocked at how many of them say ‘thank you.’”
