Each year, Pilot Mountain encourages fourth and fifth grade students to run for Student Council, squaring off for the offices of president and vice president while fourth grade students can run for treasurer or secretary.

Student Council members meet each month and coordinate special events such as Turkey Trot Skate Night. Several fourth and fifth grade students ran for office this year.

On Thursday, Oct. 12, the candidates gave speeches about why their classmates should vote for them. Fourth and fifth grade students voted after the speeches and elected Merry Parker Boaz as president, Addison Goins as vice president, Ella Simmons as secretary, and Porter Gibson as treasurer.

Principal Alison York congratulated the elected officials during announcements and said she was proud of everyone who ran for office.
