Vacation Bible School begins on August 5 at Albion Missionary Baptist Church starting at 10 a.m.

Vacation Bible School is July 29 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Brown Mountain. Lunch will be provided.

Brown Mountain Baptist Church will have a Song Service is Sunday, July 30 at 6:30 p.m. This will be outside weather permitting. Bring a chair.

The Rock House Ruritan Club will be having a yard sale inside the Ruritan building and on the porch of the Ruritan building July 28 and July 29. The group will have everything out by 8 a.m. each day.

There will be an antique tractor, auto, engine and farm equipment show at the Rock House Ruritan Building August 5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A tractor parade and hayride starts at 9:30 a.m. You can buy $10 tickets for a $1,000 giveaway and the drawing for the money will be at 1 p.m. Buy your food and drink at the show. Entertainment will be going on for your enjoyment. No charge to get into this awesome event! Money made by the Ruritans will go to the needy in the community.

There will be a benefit hot dog supper for Tony Hooker on Saturday, July, 29 at Mt. Herman United Methodist Church from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tony has an aggressive brain tumors. He needs total care. Insurance has not covered home health needs. One hundred percent of the money raised will be given to the family. Donations are accepted for supper and there will be a cake auction. Tony needs help. The church is located at 1395 Mt. Herman Church Rd,. in Mount Airy.

The Nunn Brothers 19th Annual Bluegrass Festival will be Thursday, July 27 at 7 p.m., Friday, July 28 at 7 p.m, Saturday, July 29 at 5 p.m. with fireworks at 9:30 p.m., and Sunday, July 30 at 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $9 for adults on Friday and $10 for Saturday, or $18 for both days. Children younger than 10 are admitted free. The festival will be held at 354 Woodville Road, Mount Airy.

Sympathy goes to Nancy, Renee, Peyton, Jeremy and the Cook family. Sympathy also for Sarah Anderson, Billy Cook, Delmer Ray Cook and their families.

Sandy Lee Cook, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, age 67, of Pilot Mountain died Friday, July 21, 2017 at his home. He was born May 20, 1950 in Stokes County to the late Ed Rufus Cook & Alice Inez Lynch Cook.
