Private First Class Colton R. Bruner, 18, of Pilot Mountain graduated from United States Marine Corps Boot Camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island on March 9. He is a 2015 graduate of East Surry High School.
PFC Bruner successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRDPI as a recruit in Platoon #1021 of Delta Company. These weeks consisted of learning military history, customs and courtesies, basic first aid, leadership & core values, close-order drill, hand-to-hand combat skills using martial arts, rappelling, gas chamber, marksmanship of the firing range, basic warrior training, and combat fitness tests.
All of this training led up to the final test: The Crucible – a 54 hour field event using all the skills they have learned while at Parris Island. The reward: the coveted Eagle, Globe and Anchor and the title United States Marine.
Following ten days leave, PFC then completed three weeks of Recruiters Assistance at the Winston- Salem USMC Recruiters Office reporting to Staff Sgt. Bacigalupo. PFC Bruner then reported to School of Infantry at Camp Geiger in Jacksonville, where he completed 59 days of weaponary training. He graduated from SOI on June 9 and is stationed at Camp Lejeune as part of the 3rd Battalion 6th Marines.
