PILOT MOUNTAIN — The Pilot Mountain Ruritans will be hosting their biannual Chicken and Oyster Stew and Hot Dog Supper this Saturday evening, a sure sign that spring can’t be far behind.
From 5-8 p.m., the club will invite residents from its own and surrounding communities to the Whitaker Chapel United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall for an evening of food and fellowship.
Patrons will have a choice of oyster stew, chicken stew, hot dogs or any combination, with dine in or take-out orders available. Drinks and homemade desserts will also be provided.
Tickets for the meal are available for $8 each or 10 tickets for $50 and may be purchased in advance at Clyde Fulk Exxon, from other local businesses or from any club member. Tickets will also be available at the door.
“Area businesses have been very good to support us by helping with ticket sales,” noted group Treasurer Wanda Fulk. “The sale of books of tickets is what makes the difference for us. And we’ve had some very good community support.”
The meal is one of two similar “stew” fundraisers held by the club each year, with another event planned for the first Saturday in November. Club members estimate the club has hosted the meals for over two decades.
Proceeds from the evening are returned into the community through various community projects and the funding of a Surry Community College scholarship through The Pilot Center.
Organized in the mid-1970s, the stated purpose of the Pilot Mountain Ruritan Club is “to enhance the quality of living for the total community.”
