Stokes Arts announces winners for exhibit


Waterfall Hike & Photography Challenge 2015 winner of the youth waterfalls category, by Channing Miller.

DANBURY — The Stokes County Arts Council, in combination with Hanging Rock State Park and the Friends of the Sauratown Mountains, hosted an opening reception on June 5 at Hanging Rock State Park Visitor Center, 1790 Hanging Rock Park Road, Danbury.

The display of winning photos were available for public viewing. A panel of professional photographers were selected to review each of the photographs submitted in the categories of Waterfall, Friends, Flora and Participants Choice. Each category winner received a blue ribbon and “Best of Stokes” gift basket.

The photography challenge winners are as follows:

In the adult category: Participants Choice first place winner is Maria Turner. Friends first place and honorable mention went to Sylvia Hines. Waterfalls first place winner is Victoria Cook. Flora first place and two honorable mentions went to Jamin Brooks. Flora and Participant’s Choice People’s Choice award went to Heather Eckhardt. Friends and Waterfalls People’s Choice went to Angela DiJohn. Doug Mabe received honorable mention.

In the youth category: Kara Rose Gibson won first place in Friends and Participant’s Choice. Channing Miller won first place in Waterfalls and Flora. Rose Wiig and Kaylee DiJohn received participant ribbons.
