PILOT MOUNTAIN — A local hair colorist recently celebrated 10 years of business in downtown Pilot.
Myriam Chilton, owner of Myriam Haircolorist Salon, has been in business since April 22, 2007.
After only being in the United States for five years, since 2002, Chilton decided to become a business owner.
Chilton moved from Montreal, Canada, to Pilot Mountain after meeting her husband Larry, a Pilot Mountain native, on the internet.
“He was such a redneck,” said Chilton jokingly. “I would never have thought I would end up here,” said Chilton of her move to the small North Carolina town.
Chilton explained she worked in Montreal as a hair-colorist for models, before runway fashion shows.
“Before fashion week in New York, they would do a show in Montreal,” explained Chilton.
Chilton explained she often would travel to New York City and across the United States to large cities to teach or to learn about new techniques within her speciality.
“It was hard to adjust to the small town life, but I wouldn’t have it any other way,” stated Chilton.
“I want to say a special thank you to my husband, who supported me in all my adventures,” added Chilton.
For ten years, Myriam Haricolorist Salon has relied on customers and friends who have, “believed in us,” said Chilton. “They made this 10th year possible and us so successful.”
Chilton thought it best to show her appreciation to her customers and friends by hosting a party.
Saturday, April 22, Chilton said customers flowed through the doors of her shop to enjoy light refreshments and fellowship.
“It was great to visit with everyone and to talk about life over the years,” said Chilton.
Sherri Hill, is Chilton’s only co-worker at her salon. Sandra Heath, Chilton’s friend was also mentioned as a help in her venture, “She is my friend, she has helped to guide me and help me in my life transition.”
“She helped me from coming from a big city platform artist and instructor in Montreal and New York, to a small charming town,” said Chilton of her friendship with Hill.
“We continue to stay ahead of hair fashion trends though,” added Chilton.
